November 4-5 sees the second International Energy 2030 Conference hosted by the Petroleum Institute and held in conjunction with the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference. With a wide ranging and technical programme encompassing top experts and scholars from around the globe, Energy 2030 will define the critical issues surrounding energy supply over the next 25 years as well as showcase the latest developments in energy technologies.

Twelve keynote lectures will outline the debate with an impressive array of the highest-level international speakers drawn from both industry and academia. Amongst those presenting are Dr Marianne Kah, Chief Economist at ConocoPhilips, Professors Adel Sarofim and Mujid Kazimi from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Professor Peter Edwards from Oxford University, Professor Marwan Khraisheh, Acting Provost of the Masdar Institute and Dr Donald R Erbschloe Chief Scientist at the US Air Mobility Command. Topics range from the future potential for nuclear energy to oil and gas advances, solar energy projects in Abu Dhabi to meeting global demand in biomass for renewable energy.

Professor Michael Ohadi, Provost and Acting President of The Petroleum Institute, and Energy 2030 Program Chair, speaking on the importance of the conference to Future Fuels and Energies said, “Providing sustainable energy is a top agenda item of the world in this century. Having a realistic understanding of the available options now and in the future can serve critical use to the strategic planning of Research and Development in the Oil and Gas and the broader Energy areas. The primary objective of the Energy 2030 forum of experts is to provide a collective independent expert opinion on the current status and future outlook of various energy resources and technologies.”

Attendees can expect a healthy debate on the future of hydrocarbons and the peak oil hypothesis. Matthew Simmons, author of the peak oil theory will be attending and speaking at the neighbouring conference ADIPEC. The long-term future of oil will play out on the funding diverted to innovation and technology for renewable energies in order to meet government quotas for sustainable energy provision by 2030. With the current crisis in global markets, securing funding for future energy projects is very much an urgent and topical discourse.

David Drake, Business Development Director for DMG World Media, organisers of 2030 said the conference said:

“Energy 2030 is the creation of ADNOC and the Petroleum Institute as an answer to the vision of Abu Dhabi in the year 2030. The programme brings together leading people from academia who are shaping the future of energy through research and development. The aim of the conference is not to discuss the policy of these energies but to find and debate real solutions to the problems that we face in making the solutions viable to the masses. This conference offers some really unique propositions. When most conferences are dealing with the now decisions that involve political policy, Energy 2030 deals with the long term commitment to resolving real issues that the world needs to address.”

Future Fuels & Energies and Reflex Publishing’s groundbreaking Alternative Energy Awards will exclusively compliment Energy 2030 on the evening of November 4 at the Hiltonia Beach Club, Abu Dhabi.

The awards are presented to individuals, renewable energy companies, developers, scientists and governments whose work furthers the development and use of sustainable energy sources in the region.

The aim of the Awards is to promote the widespread use of clean, sustainable energy for the environmental, social and economic benefits that it can provide. The Awards focus on positive steps to give credit and encouragement to developments in renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainability.

They recognise the latest projects and efforts, both regional and international, which address the global transition to a future beyond fossil fuels. They acknowledge the unique energy challenges and opportunities facing selected countries and the strategies and innovations being put in place by their governments, entrepreneurs, scientists and business leaders.
